The UK and Germany demonized each other in WW1; it was democracy vs fascism in WW2; capitalism/democracy vs socialism/communism in The Cold War; anti-terrorism after the Cold War; and it is now democracy against Putin's autocracy in Russia. The particular narrative/ideology changed, but the underlying issue - capitalist competition - did not.
