Should Schools Get Rid of Grades?

Prof. Wolff calls the current system of grading students "capitalist."  Sure it sounds popular, but is doing away with grades really a solution to what some call an education crisis? Prof. Wolff talks with FOX News' Lauren Simonetti to answer these questions.

Grades often act as a measure of performance, but some argue they create unnecessary pressure and fail to capture a student’s full potential. Replacing grades with qualitative assessments could encourage creativity and a love for learning rather than focusing on numbers. However, grades also provide structure and a standardized way to evaluate progress, which might be hard to replicate effectively. If schools were to move beyond traditional grading, it could create opportunities for innovative methods, like using interactive tools such as the Hit the Button math game https://hitthebuttons.co.uk/ to track skills and mastery in a fun, engaging way. Could this shift in approach redefine how we measure success in education?

Professor Wolff’s https://geometrydash3d.io perspective on grading as “capitalist” likely stems from the idea that grades can reinforce hierarchical structures and competition, which are often associated with capitalist systems.
