I think writing books are most useful when they give concrete examples rather than trying to present a universal formula for good writing. Stephen King’s On Writing is a good example, while The Elements of Style works more as a reference tool, and different writers will naturally get different things from each one. When I’m working on a longer academic project, I sometimes look at resources such as https://buyresearchproposal.com/ alongside books and my own notes, mainly to compare approaches to structure, argument, and research. For me, the useful categories are practical examples, editing advice, structure, exercises, and reference material, although everyone will have a different priority.
