It’s the political, economic and social irresponsibility of the american population that is the driving force behind the multiple, converging crises sharpened by the pandemic!
Your analysis of power from medeval monarchies to “democratic” capitalism is way off the msrk.
The historical record shows the emergence of absolute power in the ancient Egypt, Persia, and to a lesser extent, in ancient Greece.
It is the re-emergence of this type of power that we are seeing today in american society, with the profoundly ominous totalitarian drift supported by a (psychologically) significant part of the population! Trump as president is the sure warning sign of such a profound deterioration of what the human species built up over many thousands of years.
There had been critical thinkers who also heralded such ominous american tendencies, such as Erich Fromm and Lewis Mumford, but fell on deliberately and cowardly deaf ears, blind eyes and feeble minds.
