در این زمانه تغییر و تحول، چشم انداز تاریخی جدیدی فراروی ماست.نظام سرمایه داری هم باعث ایجاد بحران های عمیق اقتصادی شده است و هم نظام سیاسی زر خرید و گوش به فرمانش را به ورطه بحران کشانیده است. نه نظام اقتصادی سرمایه داری و نه نظام سیاسی مرتبط با آن دیگر در خدمت نیازهای جامعه نیستند. جامعه ما توان برآوردن نیازهای مردم را ندارد، چه از حیث توانایی عرضه مشاغل امن،با درآمد کافی و مفید به حال جامعه، و چه از حیث برقراری ارتباط پایدار با محیط زیستی که زندگی ما بسته به آن است. در یک کلام، ثمره فعالیت اجتماعی ما دیگر آن چیزی نیست که مردم شایسته و محتاج آنند. به علت شرایط اجتماعی موجود، زندگی ما آن نیست که می خواهیم و آینده فرزندانمان نیز در معرض خطر است. می توان و می باید این شرایط را تغییر داد. فقدان دموکراسی واقعی در اقتصاد و در سیاست یکی از عوامل اصلی تداوم این وضعیت غیر قابل تحمل است.بنابراین، راه حل اساسی این است که هم اقتصادمان و هم سیاستمان را بر بنیاد دموکراسی واقعی استوار کنیم و این بدین معناست که روابط حاکم بر محل کارمان را دگرگون کنیم. آن چه در ادامه می آید پیشنهادهایی است به همین منظور.
